The Annual Lecture took place on 13 November 2007 and was attended by over 380 guests. As the recently retired Director General of the Security Service Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller shared insights into her experiences of leadership from a uniquely challenging position

Dame Eliza joined the Security Service in 1974 and over the course of her career worked to counter the full range of threats facing the UK. After promotion through a number of roles including Director of Irish Counter-Terrorism and Deputy Director General, she was appointed Director General in 2002, where she led an organisation growing by 10% each year to meet the threat posed by terrorism. Eliza was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 2005 Birthday Honours List.
